The daylong event features book signing by noted authors, panel discussions, ethnic music and dance, fiction and nonfiction books, vendors, and a Children’s Pavilion with its own featured authors, storytellers and face painters.

The Harlem Book Fair on Island is set to draw several thousand book lovers to Long Island September 27, 2008. The Harlem Book Fair on Long Island attracted over 2000 participants to prior Book Fair. The African Atlantic Genealogical Society will be hosting the Harlem Book Fair on Long Island on Saturday, September 27, 2008. The book fair was established in Harlem in 1998, by Max Rodriguez, publisher of QBR the Black Book Review. It has been held annually in Harlem, New York City, since then. Other venues have been established in cities across the country (i.e.) San Diego, CA, Boston, MA; Chicago,IL; etc. Long Island became an additional venue in 2003.

Broadway Star Bernard J. Marsh Author of GREAT WHITEWAY/GREATWHITE LIES will be signing at this year's book fair.

The book fair will take place outdoors, from noon until 6:00 p.m., at the Freeport Recreation Center, 130 East Merrick Road, Freeport NY. In case of inclement weather, it will be held in the recreation center's gymnasium. Story-tellers, clowns, face-painters and a balloon-twister will entertain the children.

The 6th Annual Harlem Book Fair on Long Island (HBF-LI) presents a great opportunity to bring African-American authors, artists, poets, performers and vendors together with the Long Island community. In Celebration on this year's 5th Annual Harlem Book Fair on Long Island, scheduled Saturday, September 29, 2007, we are producing a special Commemorative Journal. The journal will be a colorful, very festive, and educational 42-page 7 ½ x 10 size booklet celebrating literary achievements of the participating authors and the milestone of the 5Th Harlem Book Fair on Long Island.

The journal, a MUST-HAVE souvenir, will be distributed at the Harlem Book Fair on Long Island on Saturday, September 29. We are currently soliciting journal ads. Deadline for submission and is September 15. You don’t want to be left out!!!

The Harlem Book Fair was established in 1999 by Max Rodriguez, publisher of QBR The Black Book Review, to bridge the literacy divide in the black community and the urban areas around the nation. Each year, since its inception, noted African-American and Hispanic authors have appeared for book-signings, panel discussions, readings, workshops, and “open mike” sessions about their work.

The community event, designed to promote literacy and literary endeavor on Long Island, is also an opportunity for authors to encourage our youth and dialogue with the community. This year is even proves to be better, as a variety of merchants have been earmarked and will be on hand to exhibit their products/services.

What started in Harlem has found permanent grounds here on Long Island, courtesy of The African Atlantic Genealogical Society (http://www.aagsinc.net), with who Mr. Rodriguez joined forces to debute the first Harlem Book Fair on Long Island in 2003. Since then, Harlem Book Fair on Long Island has been a mainstay and has continues to receive much acclaim. Each year Authors Hispanic, Writers, Venders, Residents, and Politicians alike continue to grace their presence at the Book Fair, along with several thousand consumers.

Long Island, New York - 4th Annual Harlem Book Fair on Long Island A Huge Success. The 5th Annual Harlem Book Fair on Long Island willl be held on (9/29/2007) SAVE THE DATE at The Freeport Recreation Center, 130 East Merrick Road, Freeport, NY 11520

The 4th Annual Harlem Book Fair on Long Island was held on Saturday, September 30, 2006, at Kennedy Park, 335 Greenwich Street, in Hempstead, New York. Housed in a huge tent on the park grounds, the book fair was a “rain or shine” family event. The book fair opened at noon on Saturday and will closed at 6:00 p.m.

The community event was designed to promote literacy and literary endeavor on Long Island. It is also an opportunity for authors to encourage our youth and dialogue with the community. Nationally acclaimed author, Donna Hill, was among the many noted African American and Hispanic authors available for book-signing. There were panel discussions, readings, workshops, “open mike” sessions, multi-cultural music and dance, and a variety of merchandise and food vendors. For the young people, a Children’s Pavilion was set-aside for children’s book authors, readings, a face painter, storytellers and other fun activities. Admission to the book fair was free.

The Harlem Book Fair, established in 1999 by Max Rodriguez, publisher of QBR The Black Book Review, has been held annually, in Harlem. Due to the Book Fair’s success and Mr. Rodriguez’s continued efforts to bridge the literary world and urban communities, the Book Fair has established venues across the country. The first Harlem Book Fair on Long Island debuted in 2003, in suburban Freeport, NY. San Diego, CA debuted in 2004, followed by Roxbury, MA and Buffalo, NY, in 2005. Hartford, CT debuts September 23, 2006, and the year 2007 will herald the first Harlem Book Fair in Canada.

The hosts of the Harlem Book Fair on Long Island for the calendar year 2006: The African Atlantic Genealogical Society, QBR the Black Book Review, the African American Museum and the Village of Hempstead; with the support of Verizon and Astoria Federal Savings. Other organizations on the Planning Committee were the Coordinating Agency for Spanish Americans (CASA), Nassau Literacy and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
